Before the Wild: Where Raptors Go to Earn Their Wings Back

Getting back to full fitness after an injury is hard for anyone, and raptors are no exception.

A new 120-foot coastal enclosure is giving recovering birds of prey somewhere to actually practice before they face the open sky again. Handlers can check lung capacity, assess aerobic fitness, and watch how a bird handles a high-speed turn before signing off on the release. The sky has no patience for a rusty performance, so this is where raptors can work that out first.
