Every now and then, an article crosses my desk that completely changes how I see the everyday lives of wild birds. These stories line up around something pretty wild: birds bring a level of structural intention to their world that looks a lot like an artist working in a studio.

The Hidden Math Behind Flocking Dynamics

A flock doesn't follow some grand, symmetrical blueprint. Each bird just watches the neighbor right in front of it and reacts, one bird at a time. The Curated Masterpieces of Urban Bowerbirds

Recent field observations show these birds pick their materials on purpose, going for things like green glass and red wire because those unnatural colors pop hardest under a female's ultraviolet vision. Less a nest, more a curated display.

There's something nice about a bird reading the sky and a bowerbird angling a piece of glass for the light. Same instinct, different stage. Both are proof that art isn't only a human thing. It's a natural response to space, shape, and perspective.

We feel that same pull in our own studio, where every hand-drawn illustration starts the same way: getting the weight of a feather right, or the exact bend of a branch, before any of it ever reaches the press.
